It becomes all so real when you see social network adoption by a country visual.
The map below is brought to us by Vincenzo Cosenza, one of DigitalPR’s thought leaders. Cosenza has been tracking social network domination by country, for some years now, but I think aside from the first release of this visual, this round of mapping seems to be the most tell tale.
Points of Interest
- Facebook is set to take over the world. Just kidding, but the blue on the map below shows that they’ve got a deep presence. We suspect this may change in North America, come the next version of Cosenza’s map, as already Inside Facebook is reporting month over month losses in traffic for Facebook, in several countries, the US and Canada included.
- The number of social networks on the list has decreased tremendously. Where networks such as Hi5 owned areas such as Mexico and Cuba in 2009, they no longer appear the dominant player.
- It will be interesting to see how Twitter and LinkedIn fit in the next time around. In Consenza’s raw data, these two social networks were second and third, behind Facebook in not just North America, but also in Australia, France and Germany to name a few.
